Universal Component System
The Universal Component System is visually stunning, easy to use, and powerful, giving you ultimate control and enabling Fusion to be expanded with limitless new capabilities. At the heart of the Universal Component System is a library of modules.
What is a module?
If you've ever used a Fusion component, such as the Fusion-included Ad Banner, Go Menu, Time Based Picture, etc. then think of a module as a super-charged component. Each module is a new feature which you can use to dramatically improve your web site. It enables you to add cool content and interactive features with point and click ease. You'll never need to write any HTML or Javascript code either!
Great! So what do I get?
Here is the current list of modules:
- PayPal – accept credit cards on your web site in no time flat! You choose how much you want to charge and PayPal does the rest.
- One-Time Popup – don't you hate popup windows that keep coming back over and over again? Add a popup window to your web page that gets shown once only to your visitors and then never gets shown again! Or specify how many days between each appearance, great for daily or weekly reminders!
- Frame Buster – some sites, such as Hotmail, stick a frame around your web page with advertisements when a user clicks on a link. This module gets rid of that pesky frame!
- Calendar Wizard – drop automatically generated calendars onto your page and add your own events. Control everything from the color to background images if you wish.
- Preloader – with this module, images get downloaded into the browser before being displayed. When you visit another page that uses those images, they appear immediately without any downloading.
- Live Clock – add a clock to your website that displays the current date and time to your visitors.
- SlideShow – create image slideshows on your page using a series of images. The image changes when the user clicks the next/previous button or set it up on a timer for an automatic slideshow! Supports Internet Explorer transition effects too!
- iFrame – place an inline frame on your page and use it to display another web page inside, either on your site or anywhere on the Internet.
- No Print – use this on your page to prevent people from printing it. They can still view your page, but if they try to print it they'll only get blank sheets from their printer.
- File Uploader – ever needed to publish additional files to your web server? This will let you do it!
- Rollover – add an advanced rollover graphic to your web page. Move your mouse over the image and it changes to another image. Move it out, it reverts back. Specify image borders, delays, and more!
- Super Scripter – what can we say about this one? Ever needed to add Javascript or server-side code someplace specific on your web page? This gives you 24 unique places to add your code, most of which just aren't possible in Fusion.
- Sound Rollover – mouse over the image and have a sound file played right on the web page without any visible controls.
- No Right Click – prevent most users from right-clicking on your images to save them. Note: right-click scripts are easily defeated and are useful for displaying copyright information, not as a means of secure protection.
- Reframe – search engines almost always link to individual frames on your site. If your site uses frames, this module will get your frames back so that your site is displayed as you intended.
- Input File – have a script which requires you to add one of those File "Browse..." buttons on your form? Fusion doesn't include that form field type, but now you can add it using this. (You will need to supply specific server-side software to process file uploads.)
- Print It – add a button, image, or text link to allow visitors to print your page with a single click.
- Confirm Alert – pop-up a message before your page loads. Choose an OK dialog or OK/Cancel and redirect the user if they hit Cancel.
That's a lot of functionality right there! You would pay many hundreds of dollars to purchase each one of these from other vendors. Or you'd spend days trying to do what these modules allow you to do in minutes with point and click ease.
More than just a bunch of modules!
You get a lot more than what's described above. The Universal Component System is subscription based. In the first paragraph, we described this as being a library of modules. And just like any other library, this one is always growing. We're releasing new modules constantly and making improvements to the Universal Component System in response to feedback from our current customers. Have you ever seen a really cool feature on a web site and wished you could add it to yours? Let us know and, chances are, you'll soon see it available as a module.
Your subscription entitles you to download all the new modules that become available for free. As we improve the Universal Component System itself, you can download any updates that become available for free. This gives you limitless expansion to Fusion and it's like getting an unlimited number of components in one.
What does it look like?
Not only are great new modules being introduced all the time, but using the modules is a refreshing change from the ordinary. If you have ever used the typical Fusion component, you are well familiar with the tiny properties dialog and limited features they provide. The standard property dialog for a regular component is shown below:
The Universal Component System breaks through the limitation of using this tiny dialog by giving you a complete graphical solution, where all the properties are easily read and setting values are a breeze. Take a look at a sample property shown below which allows you to choose an image:

Not only is the image filename visible, but a full-color preview of the image is displayed so that you will immediately know which image you have chosen. Is the graphic you chose an animated GIF image? If so, the image will animate directly in the properties window! Additionally, a description of the currently selected property is shown so that the purpose of the property is clear. The description can range from a single sentence to a lengthy detailed explanation.
Rich graphics and easy to use controls provide an intuitive interface, allowing you to make use of these new features with a little to no learning curve.
Need to enter a date for one of the properties? With a regular component, you'll need to type in the date yourself and hope you remembered the correct format... was it yyyy-mm-dd or mm-dd-yy or something else entirely? In the Universal Component System, dates are presented to you in a way that will only allow valid dates to be entered:
If you are still not sure of the date you want, just click on the "Show Calendar" button and a pop-up calendar will appear, allowing you to see the date in a familiar calendar style:
Regular Fusion components have only seven types of properties you can use. Universal Component System doubles this with fourteen properties. All of these property types provide you with a distinct and clear way to specify to a module exactly what you want without any guesswork. Adding features to your web site is easy as the learning curve is greatly reduced. You are able to become instantly familiar with any new module.
The way Fusion was meant to be
When you first start up the Universal Component System, you are presented with a list of modules to choose from, as demonstrated in this screenshot:

Select a module and you will immediately see the name of the module, who created it, the version number and date, and a full description of what the module does. You can also choose to download new modules. This will connect to the BitMotion server and look for modules which you do not have installed. If, for example, there have been ten new modules created since you last checked, these ten modules are then downloaded into the Universal Component System while you watch and are available for you to use right away.
Please note: a module for UCS is different than the other components we offer, such as Cascadia, Super SpamFree, Quick Form Mailer, etc. These components are not included with your UCS subscription and must be purchased separately. However, some of these components (FirstLine, for example) have counterparts in UCS which include more features.
